economic history lesson

Last night on the Colbert Report on Comedy Central, Laura D'Andrea Tyson was on.  She is an economic advisor for Obama.  She said the most interesting thing that we can look back at history and see how the economy was during Republican and Democratic presidencies.  I found an article from the New York Times that stated:

"The real incomes of middle-class families grew more than twice as fast under Democratic presidents as they did under Republican presidents.  Even more remarkable, the real incomes of working-poor families (at 20th percentile of the income distribution) grew six times as fast when Democrats held the White House.  Only the incomes of affluent families were relatively impervious to partisan politics, growing robustly under Democrats and Republicans alike"

Are you hearing this people!

"The past three decades have seen a momentous shift:  The rich became vastly richer while working-class wages stagnated.  Economists say 80 percent of net income gains since 1980 went to people in the top 1 percent of the income distribution."

Hello, everyone. . . none of you are in the top 1%.  If you are, can you give me a scholarship, or better yet sponser my life.  I will clean your toilet and wash your windows.  Even if you are in the 1% of the richest of the rich your income will still grow  along with the rest of our.  Help us struggling people out.  Vote for a Democrat!

I'm trying, really honestly trying to be open minded and independent but the more I learn the more I'm convinced that the Right (oops) is way off base here.

I understand the wants of a conservative christian right, who are the base of the Republican party, to want the whole country to have the same values but I think it's time to get those agendas out of Washington and maintain a strong faith based, grass roots community.  Fortunately each person has their own individual ideas of faith and values and are not going to do or believe exactly what a president tells them to.  People have to set a good example, do what jesus would actually do if you want to make a positive point.  There seems to be so much hate that comes out of organized religion.

Another quote from Eckhart Tolle: "On a collective level, the mind-set "We are right and they are wrong" is particularly deeply entrenched in those parts of the world where conflict between two nations, races, tribes, religions or ideologies is long-standing, extreme and endemic. . . . Both are equally incapable of seeing that another perspective, another story, may exist and also be valid. . . . Both sides believe themselves to be in possession of the truth.  Both regard themselves as victims and the "other" as evil, because they have conceptualized and thereby dehumanized the other as the enemy, they can kill and inflict all kinds of violence on the other, even on children."

"us" against "them"  is madness.
