nw native

so whole foods had this really cool sweatshirt that had some northwest tribal art (i'll try and remember to look and see who made it). so when i was last home it made me want to study some of the northwestern native art. . . i thought it would be fun to kind of play with the lines and shapes that are common in it. . .





my black book had a link to finnish/english illustrator sanna annukka. my heritage is mostly finnish and english too but i thought her art has a lot of similarities with the native northwestern art. it is also inspired by native finnish art as well. . . it's pretty cool

i made a photo book of our pictures to hawaii last year and i was looking back remember the feel of the spongy ground and grass between my toes. . .
then i saw this magical letter press print from by chelsea taylor on sycamore press. . . i love it!

memorial day weekend

since i was little we almost always spent our memorial day weekend at gearhart by the sea and the woelfel's are heading out again this year! very excited to spend a day in portland then head down to the coast for a long weekend of fun in the sand and surf! very excited to check out the new club house now owned by Mcmenamins. . . McMenamins Sand Trap.

my heart

it always takes me a little while to get happy again after visiting home. . . the beautiful pacific northwest, it's been espeically hard to get grounded since i picked some nasty thing up from a client on saturday. i got this little heart oregon sticker, we've had such weather here in colorado i haven't been able to place it on my car yet. might have to get a little green heart oregon tattoo. . .

i got my friend tyler this cute little book too (which i see you save on if you order direct from the publisher!) the author/illustrator is from seattle and her book is a great resource.

how it ends

last night we went to devotchka at the mercury cafe. it was a great small venue and they played an amazing show, though i must admit i was kind of missing slim cessna at the bluebird, maybe next year.

i need to compile my resolutions for the year. i try and do it on new years eve and burn it, and on a full moon that would have been perfect.

i know 2010 will be amazing though. . .
